Mech Ornithopter
A hand-cranked, 1:1 scale model of a blue jay made entirely with 3D printing.
Designing and building a mechanically driven ornithopter using passive wing deformation and lightweight sheet materials, and investigating wing curvature, mass distribution, and center-of-gravity placement to achieve stable flapping flight. The system explores efficient lift generation through purely mechanical motion without active control or electronics.
Passive Morphing Airfoils
Cody's ISEF project titled "Passive Morphing to Improve Lift Performance and Mitigate Stall in Low-Reynolds-Number Aircraft."
Designing and building morphing airfoils and propeller blades that use passive structural deformation to improve low-Reynolds-number performance. Fabricating composite geometries and testing lift, stall behavior, thrust stability, and vibration through controlled wind-tunnel and rig experiments. The system explores how material elasticity and aerodynamic shaping can enhance efficiency and delay stall without active control or electronics.
